Breastfeeding Sessions are now available.

As a mother myself, it amazes me daily how quickly our children grow. If there is one constant in the chaos of motherhood, it’s that our children are always one day closer to being grown up… and that means, one day, they won’t nurse anymore.

Some of my most favorite memories with my babies are of us curled up while nursing. Although it took a while for me to get the hang of breastfeeding, it was such a special time with each of my girls. I am so thankful that my body was able to not only grow each of my daughters and birth them… but also provide the nourishment they needed for those first months of life. My only regret is that I didn’t capture these precious moments with a breastfeeding photography session for myself to reflect back on during the beginning of my Motherhood journey. The saying, "the days are long but the years fly by" is so true.

capture the bond

It’s easy in the hard, sleep-deprived moments to think you won’t miss these days with a baby nuzzled on your chest, but trust me when I say you will. I still get a bit wistful any time I see a nursing mama because I remember being there like it was yesterday. That’s why I decided to help other moms make memories of this incredibly amazing, special bond. You never know just how long you’ll nurse your child – whether it’s six weeks, six months or into baby’s first year of life, you deserve to celebrate that relationship.

WHY ARE NURSING SESSIONS IMPORTANT?

Some want to capture this chapter of time before it is over. Others want to document the bond between them and their baby. Some want to get in front of the camera to battle the insecurities they may have after giving birth.

What I find most powerful, is the emotion and intensity that exits while I'm documenting these days.

fear, serenity, exhaustion, bliss.

These sessions are pure.

Modesty

For mamas who are concerned about modesty during our time together: don’t be! If you’ve got a newborn and you’re still getting the hang of nursing, you might be worried about feeling exposed during a breastfeeding session. There are so many tasteful, beautiful ways to ensure your comfort – and baby’s too. We can drape a neutral swaddle blanket over your shoulder so that baby is still visible, but you feel covered. I can also help with the position of baby’s head to ensure coverage of your breast. We can even vary the distance between you and my camera if you’re sensitive about showing your breast in photos.

Questions:

What to expect during a breastfeeding photography session?

Breastfeeding sessions are a relaxed, joyful opportunity to photograph you and baby snuggled together while nursing. We’ll time the session for when baby will be eager to breastfeed. Whether you prefer to sit, stand or lie down, we’ll capture these priceless memories in quiet, calm places: the master bedroom, baby’s nursery, your living room, or any other cozy place in your home. If you prefer, we can also schedule your breastfeeding session in a beautiful park or create a stylized shoot.

What should I wear?

These sessions are intended to be soft and beautiful. Anything that makes you comfortable – keeping the colors neutral is a good idea! Very bold colors may reflect color onto your babies face. Floor-length nursing-friendly dress or a long skirt. Maxis are great for this! I personally think solid colors or small, prints photograph better than busy patterns or lots of color. Also, solid colors or small prints keep the focus on you and baby, instead of what you’re wearing. You can add in sweet accessories like flower crowns for yourself or use newborn hats for your baby.

WHEN IS IT BEST TO SCHEDULE?

It is good to follow your regular routine, so book your session at a time when your baby usually nurses during day light hours. It is best if your baby isn't super hungry so they don't get grumpy right before – but they shouldn't have just been fed full either. The day of or after vaccines might be a rough time for your little one, so that's something to consider when booking your session. Because little ones don't always follow a schedule, I will have some wiggle room in mine and am prepared to wait for a while until hungry!

WHAT ABOUT OLDER SIBLINGS?

Let older siblings just be. Showing that you value pictures of your kiddos being themselves will tell them how much they are cherished just as they are. The main thing is to get pictures of you bonding with your kids while you are nursing – if older siblings aren't naturally gravitating into the pictures, that's ok.

WHAT IF MY BABY IS UPSET?

If your baby is having a fit, that's ok! They'll calm down easier when mom stays calm, and there's no need to rush for me.

WHAT IF THEY ONLY NURSE FOR 10 MINUTES?

We can document the blissful post-nursing milk-drunk phase. All moments are worth capturing.

ANYTHING ELSE TO PREPARE?

Open up blinds and curtains in the room(s) you'd like to be in. Whatever prep you do besides that is up to you – do you want your images to show your time and space as-is, or do you prefer clutter-free?
